LOL. On the bright side of things, the average elder can probably beat the snot out of the average priest. Sam Herd would whoop Cardinal Dolan's azz.
i see very little except that priests wear black..

at some point in my life, i would really like to write a book about my jw experience and jw teachings in general.
however, if i did, i would preferably like to write from a unique angle that makes the book a little different from the many others out there.
i can imagine some being quite self-indulgent, and i would want to avoid that wherever possible.. i must confess, due to a variety of circumstances i am not well read when it comes to all the various ex-jw books out there.
Wanted to mention The Orwellian World of Jehovah's Witnesses, although I've never read it as it's long out of print and I haven't been able to procure a PDF copy of it anywhere. Wanted to mention it simply on the strength of Orwell's 1984. Even DJEggnog would read that book and see the similarities. With that said I can only imagine how good TOWOJW is.

In Search of Christian Freedom by Ray Franz is my personal favorite. His two books remind me of a musician's debut and follow up album. COC was like the eye opener, the artist you've got to watch out for. It exposed the inner workings of a secret world that only a few have access too. By him putting that book out, he made it so that thousands are aware that there's nothing particulary special about this organization and especially the men running it. I know people who absolutely worship the GB, and I can say thanks to him and others such as can be found on this site, I'm capable of looking at the GB for what it actually is.....several old white dudes with a token black who's decisions wreak havok unnecessarily on people's lives. COC really tugs at the emotions of the reader.
In Search of Christian Freedom though, is like the follow up album, and while it doesn't tug at the heart of the reader as the predecessor, it appeals to the logic and reasoning of the honest reader. It completely decimates any case made for a Governing Body, or Christian Legalism which is straining the gnat on steroids, the blood policy which is legalism causing unnecessary death, shunning which destroys families and has caused suicides, amongst a ton of other topics. Granted these issues are emotional in nature, but when it comes to those born into the religion, it takes scriptural refutation to really flip the WT's ingrained teaches upside down, and Franz accomplished that with his second book.
The Gentile Times reconsidered at times gives me a headache, but the basics of his argument can't be refuted. I've been meaning to get his second book but haven't got around to it. I'm about done with Kyria Abrams book, and it's a pretty good read so far. A little heavy on pop culture analogies but so far a good book none the less.
in the typical do as we say , not as we do type mentality - the wt society puts forth in this current wt study article ( jw's only wt ) - that it's not " advisable " or " reasonable " for jehovah's witnesses to seek entering their own business ventures , or further themselves by getting a college education, or even have a career - due to the imminent coming of the alleged " end of the system " or alleged " paradise " .
the guilt and control used here is ridiculous.
in the article titled , " why put jehovah's service first ?
This article is really irresponsible, and crosses the point of no return when it comes to "going beyond what's written", although that's not something new for the WT. Matter of fact it's typical, although the language is a lot stronger with this one. The thing that kills me about this is, while they do everything in their power to devalue the quality of life for that of their pew, they're not providing any services to assist the average down on their luck JW other than printing the same song and dance of rehashed articles.
My father who's a die-hard JW always told me as a young man that "you have to do what you have to do for yourself, because they don't give a dern about you", they being the WT. I hate organized religion with a passion, yet some organizations do actually contribute some good on behalf of their people in the tradition of the widows looked out for in Acts. I work closely with the local Catholic Charities branch where I reside as they're one of our clients. The services that they provide not only to their own, but the whole community is something they're to be commended for. Even on their website they state that their services are for anyone regardless of religious affiliation. The WT on the other hand can't/won't provide any services to those of their own religious affiliation, and at the same time they pressure JWs to devalue their lives!
Even the encouragement that they offer is like salt in the wound. Can't find a job for lack of a degree? That's great because it gives you more time to pioneer!! You just turned 18 and your parents are giving you the boot because you didn't get baptized and can't find a place to stay? Well don't ask the WT for any housing or apartment assistance despite the millions to billions they're raking in off of real estate. Should have got baptized if you knew what was good for you brat!! Should have been like our version of Timothy! Didn't you watch the Drama last year where we took creative license upon ourselves to fill in the blanks regarding Timothy's life?!?!?
About 3/4 of the elders I know personally are self emlpoyed themselves or work for another brother. I know the figures aren't that high everywhere, but of the ones I know, that's been the case.
The body at our congregation is comprised of 11 men, 6 of which have their own businesses, and 3 of those businesses currently employ active JWs. Also of note, I've seen firsthand how relationships within the congregation have been strained because of what comes with the territory of JWs working for other JWs. A brother told me firsthand that had he continued working for the one brother it would have impossible for him to remain friends with him.
why you shouldn't care about .
offending jehovah's witnesses .

classic!
is it possible for today's youths to remain in the religion?.
But I was delivered by 1975 when I was 23 years old.
They got to find a way to deliver the fear without an expiration date.
This made me think to myself, I wonder how many JWs secretly wish for another 1975 fiasco or a scandal of sorts just so they have a legitimate excuse to make an exit from the religion without too much flack from their fellow JW peers?
does anyone know what publications will be relased at the district convention?.
Man time sure does fly by. Hard to imagine its that time of the year already. I'm not overly concerned but do have some curiosity as to what the slave class will dispense this year.
i'm just curious as i'm on the outside looking in when it comes to relationships, yet i recall undercover explaining to me a year or so ago on another thread how his wife was clingy one morning before he went to work.
it made me wonder as someone who's single, what do you feel when you need to be somewhere and your significant other is clingy at the moment?
or when your out and about and he/she is clingy, is it flattering, irritating?

ok, the kid is a bit of an ass, but weren't we all at that age?.
On a serious note, i wonder how many of us born-ins posting and lurking here would have had the cojones and the disposition to question this religion at the same age as this young kid? I don't know about you, but I wish I could go back in time before I allowed myself to be pressured into taking a chlorine kool-aid bath.

this story is so sad and the kind that keeps me up at night.
the sinclairs' son, scott left the cult and committed suicide.
Scott Sinclair is said to have hanged himself after moving to Toronto and abandoning his religion.Mr McRae said: "Felicia told us that he had killed himself. She said he didn't like having this religion jammed down his throat."
Mrs McRae said: "Felicia used to come and swim in our pool when she was younger and Scott would come and play with our son. But Debbie and Dave tended to only socialise within their religion, with other Jehovah's Witnesses. I'm not sure the children had that many friends outside the church."Mrs McRae added that Mrs Boots had previously been married to a fellow Jehovah's Witness. She said the pair wed shortly after she graduated from General Wolfe high school (now called White Oaks) in Oakville and that she had opened a high street hairdressing business.
But the marriage failed after a few years apparently because her husband left the church. Later Mrs Boots also denounced the religion saying she did not want her children to be brought up in the church.
Her brother too broke away from the church and was in sporadic contact with their parents. The McRaes said that he had been dead for three days before his parents discovered.
Mrs McRae said: "I didn't know about Scott until Debbie's sister told me. I think they preferred to not talk about it. Felicia was mad at her brother for killing himself. She said it was selfish because her kids would never know their uncle.
"We were told he hanged himself and left a note on the computer saying ‘I can no longer live like this"
I always though Jehovah's Witnesses were the happiest people on the earth. This story must have some major typos or plagiarism. On a serious note though, it's amazing how much any born-in JW can relate to some of the aspects of the siblings upbringing in this story. Marrying fresh out of high school, tensions within the family because one member of the family doesn't believe, lack of true friends growing up because the only approved friends one can have as a born-in are The Friends, and all born-ins know of a suicide or two related to the stress this religion brings about.
